The months without winter are
fraught with rain. Here's a solution devised by the real experts on soggy
living, the Scots. Our
Storm Cape, like it's famous cousin the Inverness
Cape, provides civilized protection for a night
on the town, and a portable shelter for rainy days
on the trail. We build ours from burly 10 ounce Oilskin,
not the feathery 6 ounce canvas of fashionable 'Outback' style
dusters. The body and outer
shawl are lined with 3 ply Supplex. All the pockets are on the
exterior, so you inner garments won't snag. There are no sleeves, which enhances
ventilation and frees your arms for intricate tasks. The full length
shawl (cape) covers
your arms and torso. Snap it closed like a shield in
horizontal rain, then fold it back over your shoulders for chopping
wood and catching fish. The shawl works well by itself in light
precipitation. After the skies clear,
pull off the outer covering and let the long bodice protect your clothes while you finish your soggy chores.
We've added deep chest pockets for tools or valuables, and two
large, low profile hand pockets on the belly. Unlike more urban rain coats with zippers or plastic buttons, our closures are stainless steel snaps
anchored in nylon webbing. They never rust or crack, and can be
replaced without sewing. Our optional hood zips on at the
neck for truly miserable days. Unlike
typical Oilskin garments with flannel liners,
our nylon interiors are easy to clean.
Turn the garment inside out and wash the
dirty areas with a sponge and
mild soap. Rinse the fabric with a hose and let it sit in a warm area. Fabric: 10 ounce Cotton Canvas impregnated with oils and waxes, 3 ply
Supplex Nylon lining.
Color: Dark Olive Green. Sizes, XS-XXL. See our Arctic Anorak or
Permafrost Parka for sizing information.
