Shell Layers Permafrost Parka:            Sewn right in Duluth, MN.
Arctic Anorak

We cut our 6.3 ounce canvas into oversized panels, stitch them together, then shrink the entire garment before we ship it to you. The Raglan patterned sleeves offer an extra 4" of overhead reach, and enough girth accept even an 800 fill power down jacket. The full cut of the torso and skirt act like a dressing room on exposed treks, yet they cinch down to your size with integral waist and hem draw cords.

The Permafrost Parka has two generous low profile zippered chest pockets that hold just about anything you need. Each has a hidden internal zipper so you can reach through to your inner layers without exposing yourself to the wind. We use a rugged 2 way zipper for the front opening, and sandwich it between offset flaps. We add snaps down the front to secure it against the wind, including one at the hem to prolong the life of the vulnerable zipper bottom. The Velcro cuffs are slim enough to fit inside our mittens, but small pleats in the forearm ensure that your insulation layers won't be pinched at the wrist.

Our hood is large enough to fit over a helmet, yet it compresses in 3 directions to work with any hat. The internal hood facing in made from recycled polyester fleece to manage to the moisture from your breath during bouts of activity, while the outer rim has an integral zipper to accept a removable ruff for bitter climates. The cinch cords on the hood, all the zippers pocket zippers, and the zipper flaps have toggles or tabs for ease of use in cold weather. Fabric: 6.3 ounce Cotton Canvas, 8 ounce recycled Polyester fleece. Color: Natural. Sizes: XS, SM, MD, LG, XL (XXL by special order.)

Making fur ruffs from old coats

We reclaim our Coyote fur from old coats, instead of using new pelts. Synthetic ruffs are available, though they do not cut the wind or release frost as well as natural fur.

Footwear Ice skates an ear muffs. Lake Superior in February.

Ice skates and fur ruff. Another atypical winter forces most Duluthians to find alternate forms of entertainment. Luckily the big lake froze solid and smooth. Two miles out from Canal Park in Downtown Duluth, -20F. Feb 07.
